OK! Sounds like everyone thinks it is a good idea. It should be in September, when we have production well underway and can focus on some sort of curriculum. It would span a couple pretty-full days over a weekend where we primarily go over the things that are most complex:

    • Additive multi-material operations start-to-finish
    • Hybrid operations start-to-finish
    • Rotary printing
    • 3D scanning and file processing
    • Various other topics would be covered in the processes above, or separately: priming and the cleaning station, swapping tools, calibrating tool offsets, filament dryer use, bed removal and replacement, setting up the Visual calibration system, etc.

This sounds like a lot, but everything is designed to with the end-user in mind, so it will generally be intuitive.

Tentatively, any of the last 3 weekends of September could work. In Longmont, CO.

And creating local support groups is a great idea as well!

    Hi Austin,

Can you flesh out a bit more detail on the training?  I'd be game but would be flying in so I would want it to be substantive.

Training? I'm used to buying my printers from the trunks of cars. 🙅

lol same, but none of those trunk printers had rotary capabilities, I'd love to specifically see how to apply that with this machine ect.

Sounds like a great idea.  I'll echo Art's question/comments about wanting to know more about the planned training (I'd also  need to fly).

Hmm, makes me wonder how geographically dispersed the early-adopter use base is.  Anyone else here from the SF Bay Area? I'm thinking' local users group . . .

I'm in the D, and I don't mean Dallas. Michigan to Colorado is a hike, wonder what the lady would say if I proposed our first trip in the airstream be to a 3d printer training workshop? Probably the same look I get when I want to drag her to a drone race.

@Greg, cool, we can compare notes sometime or have an unboxing event when the beasts arrive. ;-)

@Matt, that sounds pretty cool. I hope I get a chance to meet you both at the training - assuming it comes off.

Has anyone looked at the CAD for the stand? I'm thinking I can get a similar extrusion through my local Bosch Rexroth distributor and it will save a ton in shipping - but it isn't the sexy rounded section . . .

@Art - I have not placed an order (yet).  I sent in several questions to DIabase last week via the "Submit a request:" form and am waiting to hear back before ordering. A local unboxing event sounds great.  Nothing like opening up shiny new toys.  Also, happy to meet in the near future if you're interested. (I'm in Los Altos).

@Greg - I'm in San Mateo but work in Cupertino, so Los Altos is close.  Happy to meet up to put a face to name and chat a bit about printers, etc. I have some freedom in my day (benefits of a startup) so could meet up to grab a coffee during the day, or after work.

I would Love to make it out, but I have a wedding the weekend of the 22 of September, I hate to be that guy you have to plan around but really can't miss this wedding. Either of the other two weekends would work great.

Sorry for the delay, everybody. We want to make sure that our new space is all set-up before we invite people in there. And we haven't actually moved anything over there yet. Also, Stephen is going on his honeymoon the first week of October. Let's set the first training session for October 19th weekend, with another to follow for those that can't make it.

The good news is we'll have some exciting new stuff to show everyone! We think you'll be very pleased with how the machine operates, and its potential uses.

Are you planning for the training to start on Friday or Saturday?  I will be coming from Florida an will need to plan flight accordingly.  Thanks and looking forward to it.

I would expect people to trickle in on Friday - so we could have a meet-and-greet (the machine, not us) on Friday, then get started in earnest on Saturday. The bulk of the information would be Saturday, with a few more hours Sunday morning (possibly just a Q/A type of thing). Does that sound good?

Sounds good Austin.  I plan to be there for the Friday "Meet & Greet" through Sunday's session.  Just let us know about what time you would want us there on Friday so that we are not in the way.  I'm sure you have a million things going on.  All the best and see you soon.

I plan on being there for the meet and greet myself, sounds like a great chance to connect and network since I'm sure a lot of us are business owners too!

Austin is there anychance you could web cast or record at least some of the key portions of the training im in Charleston, South Carolina and can not cover the cost of the flight.

  • Avatar
    Austin Reid

@John - yes, this should be possible. We are also thinking of including a professional trainer who can later put the content online.

All - sorry for the shortage of details. We are still struggling to lock down a lease agreement. And there is no way we are inviting people in to our current workshop/office. This shouldn't affect delivery dates - nearly all parts have no been ordered. Most everything will be here first week of November, so we expect to ship machines second week of November. Some sub-systems will follow a bit later (scanner, for example, has been getting very little attention while we have been focused on ramping production of the machines).

Tickets ordered and room booked. I will be there Friday-Sunday. Looking forward to this and meeting everyone!

Trey.... my understanding is the Oct 19 weekend is still tentative.

    Austin, can you confirm this?

Side note - In my opinion well worth visiting even if not for a full on training session though. I flew down there back in July and was blown away by both the who and the what.

    Trey Robbins

Joey, thanks for the heads up. I will be coming from Alabama, and just wanted to go ahead and get tickets before the price goes up. I will see what Austin has to say, but I agree with your side note. If the training is moved, and I cant reschedule, I think its still worth the visit.

Well if our shabby office is good enough for Joey, I guess it's good enough for training. Let's stick with Oct 19. We'll either be here, or in a new place. Either way, we will make sure we get lot of valuable training time. 4 machines will be operational, setup for different operations.

    Austin,

Looking forward to this, thanks for making it happen.  I'm not worried about the digs at all;  the "shabby office" is fine by me and I suspect the rest of the folks attending are of similar mindset.  I just want to get a chance to see the systems, talk with you guys and ask some questions.

Before I book my flights, I would like to narrow down the start and end time for the sessions.  i.e. what is the expected start time on Friday and expected finish time on Sunday?

    Thanks,

    Art
