Mechanical Loading
- Place the filament spool on the trunnion rollers
- Feed the filament into the PTFE guide tube. If you have a filament assist drive installed at this location, you can either hold the arm down and continue to load by hand, or you can start the filament through the assist drive, then command the drive to push filament through the guide tube with the web control:
- Make sure the correct tool is selected
- In the Extrusion Control section, set feed rate to 60mm/s and feed amount to 100mm (or right click the amount and change to 1000)
- Click the "Extrude" button about 8 times, or only once if you changed the value with a right-click
- If you do not have the assist, then simply push the filament through the guide tube until it won't go any further (it has reached the direct drive extruder at the turret).
In web control:
- Select the tool you are trying to load and set the active temperature to an appropriate print temperature for the new filament
- Set feed rate to 5mm/s and feed amount to 50mm (these are recommended values)
- Press the "Extrude" button and push the filament into the guide tube until the extruder catches it. (If you have a filament assist drive, you do not need to push the filament through manually)
- Material should come out the nozzle. If it does not, try again. It may help to push on the spring of the Flexion extruder to widen the entrance between the drive roller and idler
In order to remove filament:
- Activate and heat the relevant tool to the materials printing temperature
- Set feed rate to 5mm/s and feed amount to 10mm (these are recommended values)
- First press the "Extrude button" to extrude 10mm of filament (This is to help reduce any 'blooming' on the end of your filament and prevent jams)
- Set feed rate to 5mm/s and feed amount to 50mm (these are recommended values)
- Press the "Retract" button and pull lightly on the filament in the cabinet until it moves freely
- Pull the filament all the way through the guide tube until it is completely free and remove the spool from the filament cabinet
During the loading or unloading process you may occasionally find that filament is unable to be fed through the nozzle, or retracted into the guide tube. If you do check out the tutorial for clearing a jam located here.
