For parts taller than 40mm, you will need to alternate between printing and milling. The same guidelines apply as to Near Net Shape processing. But there are some additional concerns when alternating back and forth.
- Use a relieved tool. This will allows the milling of vertical walls while leaving the top surface untouched, which will be important for restarting the print.
- Use Simplify3D "Start printing at height", "Stop printing at height" features, and don't print more than your tool length on each print (max 40mm)
Similarly, use your cam software to control the starting and finishing heights of your milling operation. Remember - you don't want to mill the top edge of the part (so that you can restart printing).
